City Councilwoman, Husband Recovering after Traffic Collision

Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith and her husband, Tom, are recuperating at home after a car crash this week, council President Bruce Kraus said Wednesday.

They were treated at a hospital and released following the head-on wreck, Mr. Kraus said.

It occurred about 7:55 p.m. Monday at Wabash Street and Greentree Road in the West End, according to the city Department of Public Safety.

Initial police reports show an unidentified driver of an SUV ran into the couple's vehicle, public safety spokeswoman Alicia George said in a statement.

The couple "did not sustain major or life-threatening injuries," Ms. George said.

"However, after a medical evaluation, the councilwoman is following doctor's orders and recovering comfortably at home from an injury sustained [from] the impact of the crash," Ms. George added. …
