AN INNOCENT couple on their way to the cinema were mowed down by a man who mounted the pavement after they refused to buy drugs.

Police said the victims were walking along Richmond Street, in Ashton-under-Lyne, when they were approached by a man in a silver Nissan Micra.

He offered to sell them drugs, but they declined and kept walking.

The driver then mounted the pavement and hit couple before he drove off towards Sainsbury's.

The man, 44, and the woman, 35, were taken to hospital following the terrifying attack, police said.

Police said they needed treatment for severe bruising and cuts. They are now recovering at home.

Detectives have launched an investigation following the incident. A 27-year-old man was arrested the following day on suspicion of section 18 assault. He has since been released under investigation. …
