Young Singer from South Fayette Has Sights on Broadway Audrey Logan Finds 'Truest Self' in Song

Article excerpt

When Audrey Logan steps to the microphone, she is brimming with joy and enthusiasm.

"That's when I'm my truest self, and when I'm the happiest I can be," said Audrey, a 15-year-old from South Fayette, who would like to pursue a Broadway singing career.

But it's not just show tunes that bring her happiness. She frequently sings as a cantor at her church, Holy Child Catholic Church in Bridgeville, and has sung the national anthem at numerous sporting events, including University of Pittsburgh basketball and for the Washington Wild Things baseball team.

Last week, she sang the national anthem at the WPIAL soccer championships at Highmark Stadium. She also recently emceed and sang at a conference in Hershey for the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

Audrey, a sophomore at South Fayette High School, says she likes musicals the most, and is working toward a career in that business. She has starred in shows at her school and in local theaters.

Her most memorable roles were as Marta in "The Sound of Music" for Bethel Park's Heritage Players, and Belle in "Beauty and the Beast" at South Fayette Middle School.

"It's fun to not always have to be Audrey all of the time," she said. "It's fun to say, 'Today, I'm going to be Belle," and put on that character."

Audrey is a soprano, but can hit a wide range of notes. She has sung at Mass at Holy Child Catholic Church since she was 11 years old.

The Rev. Joe Freedy, the former pastor at Holy Catholic, says her voice is "divine" and is "like an angel singing." Her performances sometimes bring congregants to tears, he said.

"Every time I came out and saw that she was the cantor, I was like, 'It's going to be profound,' because her voice just carries a real depth with it," Father Freedy said.

Though Audrey's voice is a constant at her church, she also has performed at a variety of events around the area. …
