AN elderly man died after he was struck by a coach in the city centre.

Emergency services were scrambled to Lever Street, near Piccadilly Gardens, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and National Express coach at around 1.30pm.

A 75-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital with a head injury. He later died in hospital.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and enquiries are ongoing.

The driver of the Caetano coach remained at the scene to speak to officers. No arrests were made.

A section of Oldham Street and Dale Street were shut for three hours while investigation work took place.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with further information to come forward. …
