Snow, freezing rain forecast for region

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for the entire region Thursday, calling for a snowy morning commute before precipitation changes to freezing rain later in the day.

In the advisory, in effect from 5 a.m. Thursday through 1 a.m. Friday, the weather service said it expected snow sometime after 5 a.m. Thursday, peaking mid-morning before switching to sleet and freezing rain.

The advisory says between 2 and 4 inches of snow could accumulate before changing over; a glaze of ice on roadways also is possible.

The temperature is expected to reach a high of 34 degrees Thursday before dropping below freezing overnight.

Some additional snow is possible Thursday night and Friday morning before the precipitation changes to rain on Friday. …
