St. Louis County Jury Acquits Church Volunteer of Child Molestation, Sodomy

CLAYTON - A St. Louis County jury has acquitted a former Normandy church volunteer and van driver of charges he molested and sodomized a boy at the church more than three years ago.

Late Thursday evening, the jury found Mickey Flanigan, 71, of the 7800 block of Skyview Drive in Normandy, not guilty of child molestation and statutory sodomy.

Flanigan had been a van driver and summer camp counselor at the Bethesda Temple Church in Normandy, which is where authorities said the sex abuse happened between May and September 2015.

Flanigan stood trial on the abuse charges before St. Louis County Circuit Judge Stanley Wallach. The jury deliberated for about four hours before finding him not guilty.

Before trial, the judge excluded testimony of a man, now in his 50s, who accused Flanigan of abusing him in the mid-1970s when he was between 11 and 13. …
