(NL-Plane-Crash)

No injuries have been reported after a Dash 8 aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Newfoundland today.

PAL airlines says Flight 1922 was en route to Deer Lake but had to divert to Stephenville Airport after there was an indication of a potential issue with the nose landing gear.

The plane, carrying 47 passengers and four crew, came to a stop with its nose touching the runway after the landing gear collapsed.

The airline says passengers were taken to the terminal via ground vehicles and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been contacted. (The Canadian Press)

About 10-thousand customers are without power as Newfoundland continues to be battered by what Environment Canada says is currently the largest storm on the planet.

The entire town of Bonavista lost power this morning and crews trying to restore electricity that's been out in the Twillingate and Summerford areas since last night are struggling with hurricane-force winds, whiteout conditions, poor roads and fallen trees.

Meteorologist Bob Robichaud says waves in Twillingate are reaching heights of 15 metres and large waves have been predicted all the way from White Bay in western Newfoundland to Cape Race.

Robichaud says the storm may have reached its peak intensity, but the weather effects will be felt for a few days. (The Canadian Press)

Former New Brunswick premier Brian Gallant says he believes a leadership race is needed to reinvigorate the provincial Liberal party.

Gallant officially announced this morning that he will resign as Opposition leader as soon as the party chooses a replacement.

He says the decision to quit was one of the toughest he's ever made and that it had been a privilege to serve as premier.

His Liberal government was ousted in a confidence vote after winning one seat less than the Progressive Conservatives in the September election. …
