(Canada-Post-Rotating-Strikes)

The two sides in the dispute at Canada Post are still far apart as the holiday season fast approaches.

The union is asking Ottawa to appoint a mediator after it rejected the Crown corporation's latest contract proposals.

The request came late Saturday, just before a deadline passed on time-sensitive offers that were meant to end rotating strikes.

The office of the federal labour minister isn't saying if the government will oblige, saying only it's a good sign both sides are still committed to finding a solution. (11)

A warning in a NATO draft report that Moscow's meddling in democratic elections continues to evolve.

Delegates at a defence and security conference in Halifax are being told that alliance members must be ready to meet the threat.

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan says it's likely Canadian voters will be targeted by online attacks from Russia ahead of next fall's federal election.

Sajjan says Canada is in the Kremlin's sights due to this country's outspoken support for human rights and vocal opposition to Russian aggression.

He also says Canada has already drafted a cyber-security plan. (11)

The prime minister isn't saying what he might do to keep a provision protecting labour rights for L-G-B-T-Q workers in the renewed North American free trade pact.

More than 40 Republican lawmakers are demanding the removal of language that says all three countries will support protections against employment discrimination.

Justin Trudeau -- wrapping up a his visit to Papua New Guinea for the A-PEC conference -- says he won't negotiate in the media.

But he says each country in the trilateral deal will have ratification issues.

The three countries are expected to sign the deal, known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, at the upcoming G-20 meeting in Argentina. …
