A Win for Free Speech Ben Shapiro and His Detractors Both Got Their Say

A mild controversy erupted at the University of Pittsburgh earlier this month as conservative commentator Ben Shapiro made his way to campus.

Mr. Shapiro's appearance, hosted by the Pitt College Republicans, was met with sharp criticism from some within the Pitt student body and the larger Pittsburgh community. An open letter opposing Mr. Shapiro's lecture accused him of being a"GOP apologist" and "mouthpiece for white supremacy."

As a long line made its way into Alumni Hall for Mr. Shapiro's talk, a large crowd of protesters held signs and chanted slogans deriding Mr. Shapiro. He then gave his talk, without any reported issues, and everyone went home. Chalk this up as a win for free expression.
