CHILDREN with educational needs and disabilities are suffering after two health watchdogs found 'serious weaknesses' in services set up to support them.

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) also found that most parents in Stockport had to 'fight every step of the way' to access help while others received 'amazing' support.

The joint inspection investigated how effective Stockport council and Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group (SCCG) are at delivering frontline services within the sector. In a damning report health chiefs documented a catalogue of failings - and called for improvements in a number of areas. The document reads: "There are serious weaknesses in the arrangements for identifying, assessing and meeting the needs of those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). …
