THIS is the student killed in an alleged hit-and-run.

Emma Victoria Guilbert, 18, from Oldham and who was studying at Newcastle University, died in hospital on Monday night after being struck by a 'grey or silver' Peugeot 307 in the north-eastern city.

Police said the driver failed to stop and Emma was rushed to hospital with 'life-threatening' injuries.

Northumbria Police arrested a 31-year-old man. He has since been released under investigation.

An image of Emma, who was in her first year studying psychology, has now been released.

Professor Gwyneth Doherty-Sneddon, head of the university's School of Psychology, led tributes, describing Emma as a 'bright' and 'much-loved' young woman'.

She said: "We are all shocked and deeply saddened by the death of such a bright young woman.

"Emma had already shown much promise during her time here at Newcastle University. …
