NAT096 - (US-General-Motors-Restructuring) (NOT FOR ONLINE USE) DETROIT. x-08s. General Motors is cutting thousands of jobs in a major restructuring aimed at generating six-billion dollars to spend on innovation. G-M announced yesterday that it will cut as many as 14-thousand workers in North America and "unallocate" product to five plants, including the long-running auto-assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario, as it abandons many of its car models and restructures to focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. Terry Dittes (DIHT'-ihs), vice president of the United Automobile Workers, says G-M seems to have forgotten how union members, taxpayers and politicians came together to save the company from bankruptcy.
