Tomlin: Conner's Injury Bit More Signifcant

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said running back James Conner has a sprained ankle that is a "little bit more significant than we originally thought," meaning he is likely to miss at least the next two games.

Because of Conner's injury, the Steelers have activated running back Trey Edmunds from the practice squad "to provide some running back depth," Tomlin said.

Edmunds is the brother of the Steelers' No. 1 pick, Terrell Edmunds.

To make room for Edmunds, wide receiver Justin Hunter (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve. Hunter was injured on a play when he was wide open and overthrown in the end zone against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Inside linebacker Matthew Thomas, who was released Friday, was signed to the practice squad. …
