NAT104 - (Mba-Meth-Crisis) WINNIPEG. x-12s. The Manitoba and federal governments are pledging a combined 8.4-million dollars to tackle the province's growing methamphetamine crisis. The money will be used to increase treatment capacity in Winnipeg and Brandon so there's more flexibility for people going through withdrawal. Manitoba Health Minister Cameron Friesen says meth has created unique challenges because the high lasts longer, it causes psychosis and withdrawal symptoms can go on for months. ("..used before.") TAG: Part of the funding will be spent on the creation of a mobile withdrawal service. A request for proposals will be issued in the new year and the expanded services are expected to start in the spring.
