NORTHERN Quarter bars Walrus and Tusk have both reopened.

Both bars were closed at the end of October when parent company MAD Ltd went into liquidation, along with fellow city centre venues Hula, Rosylee, The Fitzgerald and The Blue Pig.

Walrus and Tusk, which sit side by side on High Street, have been taken over by HNQ Ltd. The same company also acquired and reopened Stevenson Square venues Hula, Rosylee and The Fitzgerald last month.

When the venues closed suddenly around 125 employees lost their jobs.

A spokesperson for HNQ has confirmed that 25 former MAD staff members have been re-employed, with the employees spread across the five venues.

Andrew Blackburn, previously the finance director and consultant at MAD Ltd, is the company director of HNQ. …
