ROCHDALE 2 OLDHAM 0 ROCHDALE left it late to progress to the third round of the Checkatrade Trophy as two goals in stoppage time finally saw off ten-man Oldham.

Latics played almost half the tie without Mohamed Maouche, who was dismissed in the opening minutes of the second half for a challenge on Matty Gillam.

Frankie Bunn's men withstood long periods of pressure from the home side after that incident and were minutes away from taking the game to a penalty shoot-out.

But as the game entered three additional minutes, Dale were awarded a spot kick when Jordan Lyden was adjudged to have handled MJ Williams' shot in the area. Joe Rafferty - who had earlier avoided a red card for pushing Peter Clarke in the face - stepped up to slot home the penalty.

With less than two minutes remaining, Latics went for broke, pushing men forward in search of an equaliser. …
