Death toll from church attack in Brazil rises to 5

Close to 1,000 people attended a memorial service Wednesday for the people gunned down inside a cathedral in southeastern Brazil, and authorities said the toll of dead had risen to five.

Investigators said they were still trying to determine what led Euler Fernando Grandolpho, 49, to attack worshippers after Tuesday's midday service at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Campinas.

After taking a bullet in the ribs in a firefight with police, Grandolpho shot himself in the head, authorities said.

Netanyahu adviser accused of sexual assault resigns - An adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu resigned on Wednesday after allegations of sexual assault.

David Keyes, Netanyahu's spokesman with the foreign press, stepped down nearly three months after taking a leave of absence after he was accused of sexual misconduct by at least a dozen women.

Keyes issued a statement saying he had "decided to pursue new opportunities in the private sector." He has denied the assault accusations.

Israel's Civil Service Commission closed an investigation last month without taking disciplinary action against Keyes, finding no evidence of wrongdoing while on the job.

Polish prime minister survives confidence vote he sought - Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's conservative government survived a confidence vote in parliament Wednesday that the leader had unexpectedly asked for earlier in the day.

Morawiecki, with the ruling Law and Justice party, said he wanted to reconfirm that his government had a mandate from lawmakers as it pushes through an agenda that mixes conservative social values with higher welfare spending to help the disadvantaged.

The move seemed primarily aimed at pre-empting a confidence vote on the government that the opposition had demanded.
