Black finishes seventh in women's 50m fly

HANGZHOU, China - Canadian Haley Black placed seventh in the women's 50-metre butterfly on Friday at the short-course world swimming championships.

Black, seeded 29th entering the competition, finished with a time of 25.75 seconds, 1.28 behind winner Ranomi Kromowidjojo of The Netherlands. It was Kromowidjojo's 11th career gold medal at the 25-metre world championships.

Holly Barratt of Australia and Kelsi Dahlia of the United States were second and third, respectively.

Black, a 22-year-old native of Prince George, B.C., set a Canadian record in the preliminary round on Thutrsday with a time of 25.43, eclipsing the previous Canadian record of 25.51, set by two-time Olympian Katerine Savard at the 2016 world short course championships in Windsor, Ont. …
