Hotel St. Louis Opens in Historic Union Trust Building Downtown

Hotel St. Louis is now open, concluding a three-year effort from Restoration St. Louis to bring the historic Union Trust building downtown back to life.

Designed by famed architect Louis Sullivan, the 14-story Union Trust at 705 Olive Street had been largely vacant since 2013. Amy and Amrit Gill of Restoration St. Louis bought the 1893 structure in 2015 for $3.3 million and have since pumped $64.7 million into the renovation.

The street-level restaurant, Union 30, is now open, with Matt Birkenmeier of the late Quincy Street Bistro serving as chef.

Bookings have already started at the 140-room hotel, operating under the Autograph Collection Hotels by Marriott flag, with the next availability a week away. Each room features a vintage record player along with several albums with a St. …
