Peters Council on Dec. 17 granted property owners Ed and Susan Courtney a relief from the buffer zone requirements for their property located at 214 Valley Brook Road, commonly known as the St. Petersburg Center.

The Courtneys plan to convert the two-story building, which has been vacant for some time, into a one-story building with a pitched roof.

They have not indicated what their plans are for the property, which is zoned for commercial use.

As the building sits, there is currently 3 feet of buffer on the side of the property facing the Arrowhead Trail and 12 feet of buffer on the side facing Valley Brook Road.

Council voted to allow the Courtneys to use 5 feet of buffer onto the township property on the side facing the trail, so that the total amount to be landscaped is 15 feet.

"The use of the building hasn't been determined," said Township Manager Paul Lauer. The property is zoned commercial.

Mr. Lauer said it was determined in July that the Courtneys had 90 days to submit a plan for the development of the property, or it could face demolition. …
