ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Police in the Northeast Avalon region of Newfoundland arrested four people for impaired driving on New Year's Eve -- including one driver involved in alleged hit-and-runs involving a pedestrian and multiple vehicles.

A release from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says a 31-year-old man was arrested in St. John's at around 2 a.m. Tuesday after police say they saw him hit a pedestrian and two vehicles before abandoning his car and fleeing on foot.

They found him in a nearby backyard, where he was arrested and held to appear in court on numerous charges, including impaired driving and hit-and-run causing bodily harm.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be relatively minor. …
