DAVID de Gea had been 'killing' Ander Herrera's mind about United's failure to keep a clean sheet in recent weeks - but the goalkeeper finally got his wish after the 2-0 win against Newcastle.

The Reds have managed to stop the opposition scoring on just six occasions in all competitions this season and have already conceded 38 goals.

Jose Mourinho toyed with a number of different systems, including using Herrera in a back three, but could not find the answer in the final months of his reign.

United have looked more solid under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though, with Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones all regular starters, and only let in three goals over the festive period.

Wednesday's win at St James' Park marked De Gea's first clean sheet since November 24 - and he was understandably happy. …
