Thugs Wield Lump Hammer in Cash Raid at Warehouse

A ROBBERY gang armed with weapons including a lump hammer threatened a security guard outside a cash-and-carry warehouse.

Police are hunting four men who escaped with a 'significant amount' of cash in the raid.

The masked gang struck outside Ahmed Brothers cash-and-carry on Belle Vue Avenue in Longsight.

The driver of a cash-in-transit van was approached and threatened outside.Police said the robbers fled with a cash box in a black Audi saloon car in the direction of Hyde Road.

The box, which police said contained a significant amount of cash, was found empty a mile away on South Street.

Detectives have issued an appeal for witnesses.

They said the driver was unhurt but left badly shaken.

Detective Constable James Donnelly said: "Thankfully, the driver was unharmed but has still been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and is understandably shaken by the incident. …
