OLE Gunnar Solskjaer will be the frontrunner for the permanent United manager's job if he carries on the way he has started, John O'Shea believes.

The Reds' caretaker manager has won his first four games in charge at the club, becoming the first manager since Sir Matt Busby to do so after Wednesday's 2-0 win against Newcastle.

Solskjaer has made no secret of the fact he would love to be given the job on a permanent basis but when he was hired it was made clear it would be a temporary appointment, with the club looking to bring in a permanent manager ahead of next season.

However, Solskjaer's former teammate O'Shea, who will return to Old Trafford with Reading tomorrow, believes the Norwegian is putting himself firmly in contention to be considered long term. …
