News Arrest as Pensioner Dies in Road Horror

AN elderly man has died after being struck by a car.

Emergency services were called to reports of the collision on Hall Street, at the junction with St Mary's Way, in Offerton, Stockport, shortly before 8.15pm on Wednesday.

A 76-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a silver Ford Focus.

He died from his injuries a short time later.

A 35-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug-driving and drink-driving.

He remained in custody for questioning. Greater Manchester Police sealed off Hall Street to carry out investigation work. The street has since reopened.

GMP have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Darren Hancock, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A man has tragically lost his life as a result of this collision and we have specialist officers supporting his family. …
