She's on fire!

Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu (ahn-DREES'-koo) is going to the final of the A-S-B tennis tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.

The 18-year-old qualifier from Mississauga, Ontario won her Saturday semifinal match against the tournament's third seed, Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh, 6-3, 6-3.

To get to the semi, Andreescu stunned top seed Caroline Wozniacki, and then beat fellow titan Venus Williams in Friday's quarterfinal.

The Canadian will take on Germany's Julia Goerges (YOOL'-yuh GURR'-gihs) in the final tomorrow. (1)

The mother of a Canadian man visiting Syria says she hasn't heard from her son in more than a month, and she's frustrated with the lack of support she's getting from Global Affairs.

The agency has confirmed it is aware of a Canadian who has been detained in Syria.

Andrea Leclair says her 44-year-old son Kristian Baxter had been messaging her daily since his arrival in the war-torn country November 26th.

But there has been no communication from him since December 2nd, when he went to speak with border officials about an issue involving his suitcase.

Leclair believes he was detained for carrying a metal detector, which he uses as a hobby to find buried coins. (1)

The leader of a Canadian parliamentary delegation heading to China this weekend says it's crucial to engage with Chinese lawmakers about the month-long detention of two Canadian men.

But Senator Joseph Day knows the group needs to be careful not to do anything to jeopardize the men's welfare.

He says the M-Ps and senators will do all they can to make sure Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor are treated fairly, with the ultimate goal of securing their imminent release.

Both men are being held on allegations of underminining China's national security.

Each has had only one visit by the Canadian ambassador since being arrested in what is seen as retaliation for Canada's arrest of a Chinese tech executive wanted by the U-S. …
