Co-Founder of Consulting Firm to Fill Ura Board Vacancy

Article excerpt

The co-founder of an East End consulting firm focused on the state's progressive nonprofit community is Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto's choice to fill a vacancy on the Urban Redevelopment Authority board.

Jodi Hirsh, principal consultant for Sequal Consulting, has been appointed by Mr. Peduto to replace his former chief of staff Kevin Acklin, who resigned as URA board chairman in October after accepting a job as senior vice president and general counsel for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ms. Hirsh owns and runs Highland Park-based Sequal, which she described on her resume as a full-service strategic communications and technology consulting firm serving a large segment of Pennsylvania's progressive nonprofits.

Those include several labor unions as well as statewide and national community, economic, social justice, and environmental organizations.

Ms. Hirsh also serves as finance chair for city Councilwoman Erika Strassburger and campaign chair for state Sen. Lindsey Williams, D-West View.

In addition, she is a member of the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs and the Planned Parenthood Western PA PAC advisory council.

Before co-founding Sequal, Ms. Hirsh served in several other nonprofit roles, including founder and principal consultant of JustAction LLC, executive director of the Pittsburgh section of the National Council of Jewish Women; and vice president of operations and vice president of public affairs for Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania.

"I have known Jodi for a long time, and she is a champion for communities and equitable development. She will help our efforts to turn the URA into a 21st century redevelopment authority focused on making Pittsburgh a city for all," Mr. Peduto said in a statement.

The URA is the city's chief economic development agency and has played a role in a number of major redevelopments citywide, including the Pittsburgh Technology Center in South Oakland and SouthSide Works on the South Side. …
