Indigenous people weren't about to let a visit by the prime minister go to waste.

They took the chance to voice their anger with Justin Trudeau Wednesday night at a town hall in Kamloops, B-C, loudly interrupting him to condemn Monday's arrests by the R-C-M-P of 14 protesters at a pipeline blockade in the province's north.

While Trudeau was answering a question on industry accountability, a man stood and began to yell that Trudeau is a weak leader and had lied about wanting reconciliation with First Nations.

Trudeau asked the man several times to sit down and allow him to answer the question -- and after several minutes, the man apologized and sat down.

Trudeau eventually said Canada had mistreated First Nations for generations, but he is working towards reconciliation and is making significant progress. (1)



An agreement has been reached to cool some heat between a northern B-C First Nation and police in the wake of Monday's raid on a checkpoint and blockade of an area natural-gas pipeline project.

Hereditary leaders of the Wet'suwet'en (wet-SOO'-wed-en) First Nation have reached a tentative deal with police after the arrests of 14 members in taking down a gate that blocked access to an area where Coastal GasLink wants to build a pipeline.

The chiefs now say members will abide by the B-C court injunction granting the company access to a key bridge, if Mounties agree not to raid the nearby Unist'ot'en (oo-NISS'-toh-ten) healing camp and a different gate they say is vital to their safety. (1)



N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh is ready to fight to win one of three byelections Prime Minister Trudeau has called in vacant ridings in B-C, Ontario and Quebec.

Byelections will be held February 25th in B-C's Burnaby South, the Ontario riding of York-Simcoe and Montreal's Outremont riding. …
