Prison for Driver Who Left Mum 'Crippled'

A DRIVER has been jailed following a crash which left a mum unable to walk.

Sandra Parkinson, of Castleton, Rochdale, crashed head-on with the victim's car while speeding on the wrong side of the road.

The victim, Rachel Bates, was left in a critical condition, and had to learn to walk again.

Speaking after the hearing, Ms Bates said she was a "happy wife and mother" whose life has "changed beyond all recognition".

Parkinson was driving along Manchester Road, in Castleton, on November 28, 2017, when she drifted onto the opposite side of the road, a court heard. She then crashed into a white Ford Fiesta.

Parkinson didn't stop and carried on driving on the wrong side of road, before crashing into Ms Bates' Renault Clio.

The victim suffered serious injuries to her abdomen and knee. She suffered multiple fractures, including to her spine. …
