ENGLAND manager Gareth Southgate has ruled himself out of the race to become permanent United manager.

Reports earlier this month claimed Southgate was being considered by Reds chiefs to become permanent manager at the club in the summer to replace Jose Mourinho, who was sacked last month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given the job on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino the favourite to be given the permanent job in the summer.

Southgate's name has also been linked, but United sources told M.E.N. Sport they have not had any direct dialogue with Southgate, who signed a new England contract in October, but are continuing to assess their options. And now the England boss has also dismissed the reports. …
