Charges of Dog Abuse Withdrawn in Plea Deal

A Highland Park attorney who had been charged with having sex with his dog pleaded guilty to unrelated counts earlier this month and will spend four years on probation.

Ivan Devoren, 62, originally was charged with 10 counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals, 10 counts of sexual intercourse with an animal, and drug counts.

The Allegheny County District Attorney's office withdrew the animal cruelty charges in exchange for a guilty plea to drug counts, disorderly conduct and a gun charge.

Pittsburgh police said the abuse occurred over several days in January 2018. A neighbor called police after hearing strange noises coming from Mr. Devoren's apartment between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1, according to the criminal complaint.

A veterinarian who examined his 6-month-old yellow Labrador retriever, Snoopy, said there were signs of abuse. …
