BURY advanced to the semi-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy after their 5-2 demolition of Oxford United at Gigg Lane.

A second half brace from Danny Mayor rounded off another dominant display for the Shakers, after goals from Dom Telford, Adam Thompson and Byron Moore saw them 3-1 up at halftime.

Bury opened the scoring after 16 minutes when Telford saw his shot go under goalkeeper Simon Eastwood to take his tally in the competition up to seven.

The visitors were level just six minutes later when referee Thomas Bramall pointed to spot following Tom Miller's challenge on Marcus Browne, and captain James Henry smashed the ball past Joe Murphy.

However, Ryan Lowe's men instantly responded in typical fashion as Thompson volleyed through the legs of Eastwood on 26 minutes. …
