UNITED are no longer the highest earning football club in the world, but a marquee signing could provide 'a competitive advantage' off the field, according to Deloitte.

The multinational professional services network have published the 22nd edition of their annual football money league and the Reds have dropped two places to third.

According to Deloitte, United's annual revenue increased by £8.8m to £590m last season but Real Madrid and Barcelona generated more income in the same period.

Real Madrid lead the way with a whopping £665.2m, returning to top spot for the first time in three years, and that rise has been attributed to the club's rapid commercial growth.

Last season's Champions League winners generated more than £47m in commercial revenue last season - more than any other football club in the world. …
