Mckeesport Woman Sentenced in Fatal Stabbing of Boyfriend

The last time Amoi Waite spoke to her father, Daryl Waite, he said he was proud of her for taking care of her siblings.

The 24-year-old had become a foster parent for her younger brothers and sisters, and she had just moved into a new house to accommodate all of them.Mr. Waite - speaking to his daughter by phone the night of Nov. 7, 2017 - said he planned to come over the next day to help her unpack.

"Well, the next day never came," Ms. Waite said in a victim impact statement. "Not even two hours after that conversation, Dad was brutally murdered."

Pittsburgh police said Cassandra Locke, Mr. Waite's girlfriend, stabbed him to death following an argument in the Brew House Loft Apartments on the South Side.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Donna Jo McDaniel on Thursday sentenced Locke to 7½ to 15 years in prison for her conviction in December for involuntary manslaughter. Mr. Waite's ex-wife and four of his seven children read statements at the sentencing hearing.

Ms. Waite said in her statement that she took in her siblings because they were not safe around Locke "due to her violent nature." Locke's cousin, who owned the apartment where the stabbing occurred and witnessed the assault, told police that the couple had a volatile relationship and often fought when drinking.

According to Pittsburgh police, Locke and Mr. Waite were visiting Locke's cousin and began sharing a case of beer about 6 p.m. on that November evening. The cousin, who was not identified in court records, told police that Locke picked a fight with Mr. Waite about 10:45 p.m.

The two began to tussle, and the cousin said she saw Mr. Waite open the front door and run into the hallway, leaving a trail of blood.

The cousin said she went to Locke and asked, "What did you do?" Locke responded that she was "sick of him" and left, according to a police affidavit. …
