BOY INJURED AFTER BEING TRAPPED UNDER VAN

A 10-year-old boy was critically injured Friday evening when he became trapped beneath a van in Polish Hill.

City police, fire and EMS crews responded about 7:40 p.m. to the parking lot of the West Penn Recreation Center at 450 30th St.

Emergency crews freed the boy, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition, City public safety spokeswoman Alicia George said the boy was conscious and talking as he was rushed from the scene.

Ms. George said an adult male driver was waiting as 12 children boarded the van after participating in an activity at the center.

Police were investigating how the boy ended up beneath the van.
