SWINTON concluded their pre-season campaign with a hardfought 22-18 victory over Oldham at Heywood Road.

The home side opened the scoring inside the first two minutes when Rob Fairclough collected a short chip over the defensive line and touched down. However, it didn't take long for former-Lion Richie Hawkyard to cross against his old side and Dave Hewitt's conversion gave Roughyeds the lead. A converted Matty Ashton score for Swinton and an acrobatic finish from Lee Kershaw made it 10-10 at half-time. Oscar Thomas scored his first try for the Lions after Fairclough collected his own short dropout and raced up the field, but Zack McComb hit back to keep the visitors within two points.

Late on, Swinton captain Rhodri Lloyd's break created the try for fullback Jack Hansen that ultimately sealed victory, though Roughyeds ensured a nervy final five minutes when Kyran Johnson went over. …
