3 Arrests after Explosives Are Found in Drugs Swoop

A BOMB disposal robot was called in to aid police at a scene in Newton Heath after a van was stopped during a preplanned operation by officers.

Three people were held when officers stopping the van found a "significant quantity of drugs, a firearm and explosives".

Officers said that, around 8.45pm on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police's Specialist Operations Team stopped a vehicle as part of an investigation into organised crime on Oldham Road, near the junction of Droylsden Road, in Newton Heath. A statement read: "During the operation, police found a firearm and explosives inside, along with a significant quantity of drugs. A house has also been searched on Hopgarth Walk, in Newton Heath, as part of the investigation.

"Two men, aged 51 and 54, and a woman, 51, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, conspiracy to supply Class B drugs and possession of explosives under the Firearms Act. …
