NAT061 - (US-Empire-Cast-Member-Attacked) (NOT FOR ONLINE USE) UNDATED. x-12s. Police in Chicago are investigating an attack on actor and singer Jussie Smollett -- star of the T-V drama series "Empire" -- early Tuesday morning. Investigators say the attackers yelled racial and homophobic slurs at Smollett, who is openly gay and plays a gay man on the show. Attackers beat Smollett, poured an unknown chemical on him, and wrapped a rope around his neck. Civil rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton condemned the attack. ("..on anyone.") (SOURCE:ABC)
