FORMER United defender Michael Clegg has revealed how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer motivated him during their playing days together at then Premier League champions.

Clegg, who was a product of the famed United youth academy, made his debut for the club in 1995 against Middlesbrough.

While Clegg retired early at the age of 27 after he had joined Oldham Athletic, he worked as Sunderland's fitness strength and conditioning coach for about 12 years.

The former defender shared the dressing room with the new United boss Solskjaer and he told the M.E.N. how the Norwegian motivated him during their playing days together.

He said: "If I go back to when I was in the changing room with Ole, he always used to make sure I was okay.

"I was a quiet guy, I was two years behind the Class of 92. …
