Banned: United Fan Who Grabbed Steward's Throat

A UNITED season-ticket holder has been slapped with a three-year football banning order after he grabbed a female steward by the throat.

Keith Conway, a part-time caretaker at a Manchester apartment complex, was asked to leave Newcastle's St James' Park ground before half-time during the Premier League clash on January 2. Conway, 57, elbowed the steward and spat at her and then grabbed her by the throat. The under-attack woman was then forced to knee Conway in the groin to escape his grip.

The United fan was then arrested by Northumbria Police.

Conway, who lives in Whalley Range, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault at North Tyneside magistrates court and received a football banning order to last for three years.

Prosecutor Claire Irving told the court Conway had been drinking before the match kicked off at 8pm. …
