Mckeesport Angler Takes 16-Inch Trout at Twin Lakes

Article excerpt

When a friend's depth finder marked trout under ice at the upper body of Twin Lakes, Gary Walsh of McKeesport abandoned his lower lake hole and relocated. He dropped his waxworm-tipped jig through a solid 5 inches of hard top and waited.

"It wasn't more than a few minutes, and the rod started bouncing," he said.

On Feb. 2, Mr. Walsh pulled out a fat 16-inch rainbow that he said was "just the right size for dinner."

About 35 ice anglers were spread across the lower lake in Westmoreland County that afternoon. About 20 augered holes at the smaller upper lake at Twin Lakes Park outside of Greensburg. Few fish were caught.
