EAST ST. LOUIS - A man has been charged in the brutal beating of his 75-year-old mother after she was found critically injured and unconscious last week in the home they shared in East St. Louis.

Opal Glasper, 75, was found severely beaten the night of Feb. 3, according to family and police. She was taken to a Belleville hospital, then transferred to a St. Louis hospital, where she remains in critical condition a week after the attack, family members said.

Her brother discovered her injured at the home on Bougainville Drive after arriving there to stay the night after a Super Bowl celebration, family said. Her vehicle, which was missing, was later spotted at Lumière Place Casino.

Her son Marlon R. Glasper, 51, was found inside the casino, family said, though police said only that he was taken into custody in downtown St. …
