'Calming' Coach Phelan Key to Ole's Red Renaissance

UNITED are on a great run of form under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but legend Paul Scholes believes that coach Mike Phelan has played a big role in the Norwegian's early success.

Phelan worked with Scholes under Sir Alex Ferguson but was unceremoniously let go by David Moyes when he took over the club from Ferguson in 2013.

The 54-year-old played for United for five years between 1989 and 1994, and after leaving Old Trafford as a coach in 2013 had spells with Norwich City as an assistant and caretaker as well as Hull City where he was given the top job in 2016.

Unable to keep the Tigers in the Premier League, the one-time England international returned to Old Trafford in December as a firstteam coach under the stewardship of Solskjaer following Jose Mourinho's sacking. …
