Historic Stained-Glass Windows Stolen from Old Braddock Church

Thirteen historic stained-glass windows were stolen from a shuttered church in Braddock and may be sold to unwitting antique or salvage dealers, the building's owner warned Friday.

The windows were stolen from the former First United Presbyterian Church on Parker Avenue in Braddock. The theft was discovered early Thursday by a passer-by, said Laura Zinski, chief executive officer of Mon Valley Initiative, a nonprofit organization that purchased the building in 2018, a year after the church closed its doors because of low attendance.

Mon Valley Initiative hopes to turn the building into housing and had planned to retain many of its original features, including the windows, according to a statement from the organization. The church was built in 1893.

Ms. Zinski warned local antique or salvage dealers to be on the lookout for the 13 panes of glass, which are roughly 2-by-2 feet and 3-by-2 feet. …
