A RIDE at an Oldham funfair had to be closed after people were trapped on it.

It is understood eight people were stuck in their seats on the Air Max ride at the 'Blackpool Comes to Oldham' fair because of an electrical fault.

The M.E.N. was told riders were trapped for around 20 minutes yesterday afternoon.

Fairground bosses said bars on the seats didn't unlock due to the fault. Nobody was hurt.

The ride was closed as a precaution.

The Air Max ride was due to be back up and running today once safety tests have been carried out, the fair's site manager, Jake Dekoning, said.

Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called by a member of the public.

Mr Dekoning said: "The ride stopped as it normally does.

"Due to an electrical fault, the bars didn't unlock straight away. We've had to fix the fault and it took us around 15 to 20 minutes to get the bars open and get everyone off. …
