PHIL Foden has been told what aspect of his game he must improve to be considered a City regular.

City legend Paul Dickov was speaking after Foden scored twice in the 4-1 win over League Two side Newport in the FA Cup, and said the 18-year-old is close to starting regular games.

Foden has featured heavily in City's run to the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup quarter-finals, but is yet to start a Premier League match for City. And Dickov believes the youngster is nearing that landmark after an 'outstanding' performance against Newport.

He explained: "Yes, he is [close to starting].

"They absolutely love him here. He could have gone out on loan numerous times to big clubs but they love him here.

"They want to keep him in training with the likes of David Silva, Fernandinho and Kevin de Bruyne. …
