(Britain-Labour-Party)

Seven British lawmakers say they are quitting the main opposition Labour Party over its approach to issues, including Brexit and anti-Semitism.

Many of Labour's 256 lawmakers are unhappy with the party's direction under leader Jeremy Corbyn, a veteran socialist who took charge in 2015 with strong grass-roots backing.

They accuse him of mounting a weak opposition to the Conservative government's plans for leaving the European Union, and of failing to stamp out a vein of anti-Jewish prejudice in the party.

Luciana Berger, among those leaving, said Labour has become "institutionally anti-Semitic."(4)

The developments mark a new low in a bitter conflict over how to remember and characterize Polish actions toward Jews during the German occupation of Poland in the Second World War.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called yesterday's remarks by acting foreign minister Israel Katz "racist."(4)

Alberta's education minister says Opposition Leader Jason Kenney is being ignorant and deceptive about the curriculum review underway for all school grades in the province.

David Eggen (EGG'-ihn) rejects Kenney's claim that the N-D-P is injecting its ideology into the curriculum rewrite, and calls those accusations a "drive-by shooting" on kids' education.

Alberta is currently reworking the curriculum for the core subjects to emphasize the basics, but also focus on broader issues of social dynamics, such as respecting diversity and minorities and embracing inclusivity.(4)
