Man Gets 5 Years on Gun Charge in Shooting at MetroLink Station

ST. LOUIS - A man from St. Louis who accidentally killed an innocent bystander last year near a MetroLink station while thwarting a robbery was sentenced Friday to five years in prison.

Devin E. Smith, 31, of the 5500 block of Mable Avenue, was sentenced in connection with the death of Craig LeFebvre, 48, who was killed Aug. 21 at a bus stop near the South Grand Boulevard MetroLink station.

Smith was a felon at the time of the shooting and wasn't supposed to have a gun.

Two men tried to rob Smith, who fired his gun "in response to the robbery" and struck LeFebvre, court records say. Those two men, Antreion Betts, 19, and Armani McKinley, 21, both of St. Louis, are facing murder charges in the shooting.

McKinley was grazed in the encounter. McKinley and Betts are accused under a law that allows murder charges to be filed against participants in a robbery when someone dies. …
