Ellisville Officials to Urge Counterparts Statewide to Oppose 'Power Grab' Merger Vote

ELLISVILLE > Officials to urge counterparts elsewhere to oppose statewide merger vote - Ellisville officials on Wednesday night approved having Mayor Mike Roemerman and City Manager Bill Schwer write to city officials elsewhere in Missouri to express opposition to a proposal to put a merger of St. Louis and St. Louis County before voters statewide.

The nonprofit advocacy group Better Together is behind the effort to secure state approval for a reunification initiative.

Councilman Dan Duffy, at a council work session, said there's a need to "counter a top-down, well-financed power grab."

"We should take a populist message to others in the state, stating our opposition -- we don't want to lose our independence," he said, asking for the letters to be drafted.
