Regarding the Post-Gazette's Feb. 15 editorial "Brown Goes Low," I disagree with its criticism of Sen. Sherrod Brown for two reasons: its tacit support of euphemism and its improper use of metaphor.

When I first read the editorial, I was reminded of a comment by Timothy Eagan: "Democracy slips away under the cover of euphemism." Let's not ignore the obvious: All Americans have read about or witnessed President Donald Trump's speech and behavior. Going back many years and in countless examples, he speaks and acts like a person with racial animosity. Although I don't want Mr. Brown to make this a focus of his campaign, I do appreciate his honesty in telling us his thoughts.

And, to be clear, the discussion about racism was a very short comment in the interview. …
